County of Chester is Hiring a Director of Security Operations Near PA, PA

The Director of Security Operations is responsible for supervising and managing the Security Department within the Chester County Prison. This position serves as the project coordinator for the Prison/Correctional Center security building and coordinates ground checks of the prison facilities. This position will act as Warden when both the Warden and the Deputy Warden are absent.
A Criminal Background check is required.
  • Ensure that all security operation plans are in place and that inmates are secured.
  • Manage security operations, ensuring consistency across shifts.
  • Ensure administrative policies are reviewed and followed. 
  • Manage inmates.
  • Manage security, safety, and sanitation.
  • Maintain professional expertise and training.
  • Effectively compiles and analyzes jail operational statistics and oversees the preparation of reports for official records. 
  • Manage daily operations.
  • Maintain staff professionalism.
  • Maintain community relations. 
  • Perform other duties, tasks and special projects, as required.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four years of job-related experience in corrections, law-enforcement, military, or security.
  • Ability to complete and pass correctional officer training courses as assigned by the Warden. Must complete Pennsylvania Department of Corrections Basic Training within Twelve months and Supervisor Training within eighteen months.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and coordinate resolutions to critical situations, under all conditions.
  • Ensure the inmate population is housed and supervised as directed and governed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as per Title 37 in addition to all other applicable Federal (e.g. ACA), State and Local mandates.
  • Ability to pass PA State police PATCH, PA Department of Welfare Child Abuse Clearance, FBI fingerprint check, and qualify as a JNET Criminal Justice User.
  • Strong leadership ability and professional ethics. 
  • Manage emergency situations that arise throughout the institution.
  • Provide management of contractual services throughout the Prison as well as the related RFP and /or ITB process with Procurement.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to use common sense understanding to carry out written or verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Strong Organization and time management skills with an ability to establish priorities.
  • Ability to handle and resolve recurring problems.
  • Accurate and detail oriented
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and handle confidential matters.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice or Administration of Justice.
  • Seven or more years of correctional, law enforcement, military, or security, related job experience.
  • Three years job-related administrative experience in corrections, law enforcement, military, or security.
  • Certified in Pennsylvania Department of Corrections Basic Training, Supervisor Training, and other advanced certifications, corrections, law enforcement, military, corporate security, etc.…
  • Ability to identify symptoms of stress-related job performance deficiencies in others and take appropriate action.
  • General knowledge and understanding of County of Chester policies and procedures.
  • General knowledge of the Chester County Prison policies and procedures handbook (General, Post, Officer conduct orders, etc.).
  • Experience with K-9 operations. 
  • Experience with FAA regulations.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have:

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, work with an uncommon level of noise and talk or hear. Occasionally, the employee will need to stand, walk, climb stairs, drive a vehicle and taste or smell. On rare occasions, the employee will need to reach or work with arms above shoulders; bend, twist or rotate at the waist while working; kneel, stoop, crouch or squat; and push, lift or carry items.
 
The specific vision requirements for this position are as follows:
  • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)
  • Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors)
  • Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point)
  • Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships)
 
Work Environment:
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • High stress environment.
  •  Hazardous environment includes noise and confinement.
  • Possible exposure to unknown contagious diseases.
  • Working with a high-risk population on a daily basis.

Other:
  • Required to perform rotating Duty Officer responsibility. 
  • Ability to be on-call 24 hours a day for a seven-day period.
